How to Draw Cartoon Lips – Let's Get Started!
Step 1
We will keep things nice and simple for this first step of your cartoon lips drawing! All you need to do for this first part is draw two small, curved lines connecting to one another.
They may not seem like much now, but they will form the center of the top lip, and they will be an important part of making these lips look more realistic.
Once you have drawn these two simple lines, we will extend the rest of the top lip down from them as we move on, so let's go to step 2 to do just that!
Step 2 – Now, draw some more of the top lip
For the second step of this guide on how to draw cartoon lips, we will be drawing some more of the top lip. This will be an extension of the lines that you began in the first step of the guide.
When drawing, try to keep in mind how the final image will look, as this will help you with the angle of the sides of the top lip.
These lines will be rather simple and very slightly curved, as shown in our reference image. Then it's time for step 3!
Step 3 – Next, draw the opening of the mouth
The pair of lips we are portraying here will be slightly open, and this is what we will show in this next step.
To do this, we will essentially be drawing a large, thick black line across the bottom of the top lip. The line will start simple and slightly curved, but then it will get drastically thicker in the center.
Before long, it will progress to be another simple curved line like the first portion. That's all there is to it, and then we can move on!
Step 4 – Now, draw the rest of the bottom lip
The top lip is complete, but this wouldn't be a complete cartoon lips drawing without a bottom one to finish it off!
This one should prove to be a bit easier than the top lip was, as the line-work on the bottom lip is much simpler.
The corners of the mouth will have pointy tips, and then the lip itself will be drawn as a simple curved line stretching from one tip to the other.
Try to look at our reference image as you draw in order to get a handle on the size and shape that this lip should take. Then, you will be ready for some final touches in the next step of the guide!
Step 5 – Add the final details to your drawing
Now it's time to add some final small details to this drawing before we get to the last step of this guide on how to draw cartoon lips!
This step will be very simple, but also very effective. You will see that we drew a series of simple curved lines around the opening of the mouth.
These are all sized differently, and they are positioned in such a way as to give the lips more curvature.
When you have drawn these lines, you can then add some of your own! There are many different options to choose from when doing this.
If you're feeling ambitious, you could draw the rest of the face around the mouth. You could also add other details such as rings onto the lips for a funky touch.
How will you finish off this pair of lips?
Step 6 – Finish off your drawing with color
This is the final step of the guide, and now we can have some fun coloring in these cartoon lips! In our reference image, we made the lips to look as if they are covered in some bright, luscious lipstick.
For a similar effect, you can use some bright reds to color them in, and you could make them even brighter by using mediums like colored markers, pens or acrylic paints.
It's not as simple as just using one bright color, though. You'll notice that we used slightly lighter reds for certain areas and also used some thick white lines for glinting on the lips.
So now, how do you think you will finish off these lips? You could use other bright beautiful colors for different shades of lipstick, but you could also give them a more natural color.
We can't wait to see what you go for!
